06. Energy

To ensure the future prosperity of America, we must make the goal of energy independence a top priority. Congress should establish economic incentives to encourage the ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit of Americans and allow our system of free enterprise to develop alternative and renewable sources of energy. The creation and production of new energy sources will end our dependence on overseas oil and ensure that profits are kept here at home while simultaneously creating good paying, high-skilled jobs. Florida's ecosystem plays a unique and essential role in our environment. We must continue to protect this treasure from the dangers of pollution that could result from increased drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. Current restrictions on drilling off of Florida's coast should be maintained. Developing a truly sustainable energy policy will include providing market-based incentives for environmentally safe development and production of energy as well as tax credits that encourage the adoption and use of energy efficient cars (such as electric fuel cell and hybrids), homes and buildings.
